(2) Guru Angad Dev Ji Maharaj---
Guru Angad Dev Ji Maharaj was born on 31 March, 1504 in the village Matte- De- Sarai in Firojpur district, Panjab. His name was Lehna. ln 1539, Guru Nanak Ji nominated him as the second guru and also gave him a new name Angad Dev after testing him in various ways.
He was the son of Petty Trader named Pheru ji. His mother was Daya Kaur. Baba Narayan DasTrehan was his grand father. Mata Khivi ji was his wife. Sri Devi Chand was his father- in- law. Dasu and Datu were his sons.
Bibi Amro ji and Bibi Anokhi ji were his daughters.
He was devoted to Devi Jwalamukhi. He used to lead a batch of worshipers to Jwalamukhi temple every year. Once bhai Lehna ji heard the recitation of hymn of Guru Nanak Dev Ji from by Jodha Ji, who was a Sikh of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and was thrilled. He decided to proceed Jwalamukhi through Kartarpur to have a glimpse of Guru Nanak Ji. During his yearly pilgrimage to Jwalamukhi temple, he first met Guru Nanak Ji at Kartarpur in 1532. This completely transformed him. He dedicated himself to the service of Guru Nanak Ji. He became a Sikh and began to live in Kartarpur. He stayed there for seven years. His devotion to Guru Nanak Ji and his Holly mission was so great that he was installed as a second Guru on September 7, 1539 by Guru Nanak Ji.
The whole family of bhai Phreru Ji was settled in the village Khadur Sahib beside the Vyas river near Taran Taaran Sahib, 25 kms away from Amritsar. After Guru Nanak Dev Ji left this mortal world on September 22, 1539, Guru Angad Dev Ji left Kartarpur for Khadur Sahib. Guru Angad Dev Ji introduced a new alphabets known as Gurumukhi script by modifying the old Punjabi script. It became the script of the masses after that.
In nine vaars 63 slokes are composed in Guru Granth Sahib which were written by Guru Angad Dev Ji.
He took great interest in the education of the children by opening many schools.For the youth he started Mail Akhara, where physical as well as spiritiual exercises were held. He collected the facts of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and wrote his biography.
Guru Angad Dev Ji visited all important places and centers
established by Guru Nanak Dev Ji for preaching Sikhism. He also established hundreds of new Sangats ( Sikh religious institutions). The period of his Guruship was most crucial. In the period of Guru Angad Dev Ji. Sikhism established its own separate religious identity which was away from Hinduism. By following the example of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, he nominated Amar Das Ji as his successor (Third Guru) before his departure from this world. He presented all the holly scripts including those he received from his Guru Nanak Dev Ji, to Amar Das Ji.
Story of Humayun and Guru Angad Dev ji--
Humayun became emperor of lndia after his father Babar died. But he did not have control. His enemy Sher Shah became emperor. Humayun wanted blessings from holly people, so God would gave him his kingdom back. He went to Guru Angad Dev Ji to get this blessings.He went to Guru with pride and he decided, he would not get off his horse to greet the Guru as an equal. Guru did not notice the emperor's coming because he was in meditation. Humayun became angry and he stormed off of his horse to kill the Guru for disrespecting. When he pulled his sword out and try to attack on the neck of Guru, then his hand was paralyzed. He shocked to see his paralyzed hand. Now he was waiting for the mercy of Guru. When Guru's meditation completed then he saw the emperor in this position. Guru said," Your sword comes out very quick to kill saints, but it could do nothing to kill your enemy Sher Shah.Where was your sword then ? Humayun became very ashamed. His hand was free(working) now. He put back his sword into it's sheath. He got down from the horse. He went near the Guru and bowed before him. He begged Guru's pardon. He requested to Guru to prey for him and restore the throne. Guru told him that this would happen. Humayun was pleased. He bowed to the Guru again and went away. He got back his throne after a some time.
